Skokie, IL: Ars Viva presents the sensationally gifted Israeli cellist Amit Peled in the ravishing concerto by Elgar, along with the Vaughan Williams Symphony No. 5 and Britten's Simple Symphony. Don't miss this glorious music from England's most illustrious composers, demonstrating their remarkable gifts for combining sensuous melodies with brilliant orchestral color. The American Record Guide stated that Peled "has the flair of the young Rostropovich," while another critic wrote that "his sound is forged in the innermost chambers of the soul and is magically transferred to the tips of his fingers." Maestro Alan Heatherington leads the acclaimed Ars Viva orchestra in this irresistible program of great English music.
Amit Peled
From the United States to Europe to the Middle East to Asia, Israeli cellist Amit Peled, a musician of profound artistry and charismatic stage presence, is acclaimed as one of the most exciting instrumentalists on the concert stage today. Mr. Peled has performed as soloist with orchestra and in the world’s major concert halls, such as: Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall, New York, Salle Gaveau, Paris, Wigmore Hall, London, Konzerthaus, Berlin, and Tel Aviv's Mann Auditorium. As a recording artist, Mr. Peled has just released two critically acclaimed CDs: “The Jewish Soul” and “Cellobration” under the Centaur Records Label. Mr. Peled is a Professor at the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University and plays a rare Andrea Guarneri cello ca. 1689.
Ars Viva Symphony Orchestra
Founded in 1995, Ars Viva is a professional orchestra distinguished by performances of the highest quality. Led by Music Director Alan Heatherington, Ars Viva is composed of many of the finest players in the Chicago metropolitan area, including members of the world-renowned Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Its programs often juxtapose beloved masterworks with less familiar repertoire. Friendly, informative remarks from the stage provide context for the music and establish a welcoming atmosphere at each concert.
In addition to its outstanding concerts and musicians, Ars Viva offers a unique youth program, Music for Life in partnership with the Music Institute of Chicago. On all Sunday concerts, children, 4 to 11 years old, attend the first part of the concert with their parents, then leave to take part in interesting music education sessions right in the building. The younger children leave after the first piece; the older ones at intermission. Parents purchase regular tickets and their children attend for FREE.
Tickets to the October 23rd concert are $35–70 with discounts for seniors and youth. Ample free parking is available and the building is handicap accessible. Call the box office at 847 673 6300 or purchase tickets at www.arsviva.org.
