What's your story?

EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF DANCE!!! WATCH OUT! IT'S CONTAGEOUS!!!

I am Elizabeth; and I come from a culture that lives and breathes music, dance, good food and conversation. We Greeks turn the most simple moment into a lively celebration with little to no provocation. Dance begins when feelings well up inside and need to be expressed. We dance when saddness overcomes us! We dance when happiness bubbles up 'til it brims over and has no place to go except into the rhythmic movement of feet and hands and body!!!

Dance is the great spiritual healer!!! I have danced since early childhood, first behind closed doors with my Sister, Mother, Yia Yia and Thias, as it was not acceptable behavior for little girls in my culture to do this in front of men. Then, as I grew up and found myself in Detroit, Michigan, things changed for me.

I found that the very best of the Greek, Middle Eastern, Turkish, North African, Balkan and Asia Minor, Saami and Gypsy cultures has started to seep into the American mainstream. We now have foods crossing from one culture to another, music sharing and - yes - even a belly dancer at an American wedding!!!

DELPHIBELLIDANCE is the outcome of many years of my being asked to share my dance, knowledge, costume design, music and crazy, Gypsy-Greek Spirit. The time is right! The Time is Now!!!

Dance is one of those universal connections we have that allows us to communicate without benefit of a common culture, language, religion, paradigm or country of origin.
