AN EVENING WITH SARA MONTIEL at Instituto Cervantes

April 27, 2012 from 6pm to 8:30pm
There is no denying the cultural and artistic achievements of Sara Montiel during her extensive career. She is an icon, diva and mythical figure of Spanish cinema and pop culture since the 1950s. She was introduced to United States moviegoers in the film Vera Cruz (1954) co-starring with Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster, and directed by Robert Aldrich. She was offered the standard seven-year contract at Columbia Pictures, which she quickly refused, afraid of Hollywood's typecasting policies for…See More

MUJERES, ZA! & FURGUSON at Instituto Cervantes

March 21, 2012 from 7pm to 9:30pm
MUJERESFour gentlemen from Barcelona met at university and had the brilliant idea to form a band. The band is known for a mix of punk, garage, rock & roll and maybe even a little blues and rockabilly. It is fast, exhilarating and fun. Within a year of releasing their self- titled debut they had a full touring schedule that took them all over the world.  Mujeres is pure fun, for the band and the audience. You don't even have to know the songs to sing and jump along. They will present their…See More

VETUSTA MORLA at Instituto Cervantes

March 20, 2012 from 7pm to 8pm
Come experience a solid Spanish rock band that stretches the boundaries of the genre. Vetusta Morla add sounds and rhythms from outside the rock tradition, but they keep to the core and do not fall into the predictable pitfalls of world music.  How they present and manage their work is unconventional, too: their two albums to date, Un Dia en el Mundo (2008) and Mapas (2011) were both released by Pequeño Salto Mortal, a label they created to bypass the traditional channels of the recording…See More
